  6. Word Hound is a combined dictionary and thesaurus for Acorn's Risc-OS range
  7. of computers. It allows fast and convenient access to full definitions, and
  8. alternatives for over 30,000 words.

  10. Word Hound will also comunicate with many other applications allowing the
  11. passing of words in both directions (eg. passing a word from a word
  12. processor to Word Hound, and then passing an alternative word back to the
  13. word processor for replacement.

  15. With Computer Concepts' Impression application there is a direct hotlink
  16. allowing even better comunication between the applications.

  18. It allows 3 different searches :
  19.  
  20. 1) The Word Hound (normal) Search - A search unique to Word Hound and it's
  21. little brother 'Mini Hound'. This search takes a word and looks for words of
  22. the same stem, etc. Thus it ignores 'ing', 'ed' endings, etc. and also
  23. compensates for differences between British and American spellings.

  25. 2) The 'Wild Card' search can use both * and # wildcards to search for words
  26. contained in the index files.

  28. 3) The 'Sounds Like' search searches for words that are similar in sound to
  29. what it typed in. Useful for when you can't remember the spelling.

  31. Word Hound also allows the user to create new data files, or edit the
  32. existing ones, by the use of some special tools that decompress data and
  33. index files, create index files for thesaurus data files, and compress data
  34. and index files.

  36. At just over 3.5 Meg Word Hound is a hard disc application (the vast
  37. majority of this is data), but it only requires about 200k memory to run so
  38. works on computers with only 1 Meg available.

  40. Word Hound is a SHAREWARE application. This means that it is freely
  41. available from various sources (eg. PD libraries, BBSs, mail servers and ftp
  42. sites), but continued use (more than 2 weeks) requires registration.
  43. Registration for Word Hound costs just 5 pounds sterling for a single user
  44. (10 pounds for a site licence). If you would like a copy of Word Hound and
  45. you can not find it elsewhere, you can obtain a copy upon registration
  46. (U.K. only) by sending 5 blank 3.5in discs (formatted to 800k) with 6 pounds
  47. (includes 1 pound to cover return postage and packing and time, etc.)

  59. sure all discs sent are formatted to 800k and are blank (also preferably
  60. with labels attached), failure to ensure this will only delay their return.

  65. Word Hound is currently (Jan 1993) at version 1.17. Registered users with
  66. earlier versions can update either by e-mail (free) or by sending a blank
  67. (formatted) disc to the above address (plus about £1 for return p&p, etc.).
  68. Users of version 1.00 who wish to register and/or upgrade to version 1.17
  69. will need to send 2 discs due to major differences between v1.00 and all
  70. other versions (this upgrade can not be done via e-mail due to size).
